Have you seen a snow globe before? The one decorative sphere when you shake it physically, the “snow” particles floats around the water-filled sphere…

Now, i had a feeling that i am living in a snow globe…

nooo…not that i feel dizzy or what, is just that it is winter now in switzerland… and for the past few days, it has been snowing now and then and at times the whole day.

Sitting inside the office… or my apartment, looking out from the huge gigantic windows, the snows were falling… flying around and then it stopped without any notice. After a while, or a few hours, then it started to snow again.

It is as if someone shake the snow globe, put it down, and watch the snow flakes flying around… and when all flakes settled, then pick up the snow globe and shake it again.

I know this sounds stupid… and childish…
but for someone like me who grew up near the Equator,
snow has always been magical 😀

snow covered cars, snow covered road, snow covered roofs, snow covered trees…. these are all just too beautiful

What seems like a normal street, a normal tree, a normal garden, a normal city, they were all transformed into something magical in just a matter of few hours.

Here i shared with you some of the shots i made….

Autumn, Herbst

Sunday, November 8th, 2009

It is very beautiful…
It is autumn now, my very first autumn in life…
I like the multi-hued hills, parks, and streets…
I like the morning mist and even the dreadful fog…
I like the smells of roasted chestnuts…
I like the fallen leaves on the sidewalk…
I like the crushing sound of the leaves when i walked on them…
I like the cool weather….
I like the million francs view on a clear day…
the view of the crystal clear lake, bordered by low colourful hills, with the majestic Alps at the background, in every direction…
I like the cool weather…
I like the fact that city is now decorated or in progress of transferring into a magical winter wonderland…
I like the fact that i am going for long holiday soon…
but I also HATE that my camera died…
I hate that it chose to die now….
I hate that i have nothing to capture those items i mentioned…
I hate the fact that there will be no autumn, until next year…

It was my dream since i knew about England, that i wanted to visit London, at least once in my life.

All my friends know how much i wanted to visit London….

Well, i had my chance and luck that i managed to make a short trip across the channel to London from Switzerland… with a friend of mine with easyjet.

First impression of London : messy, crowded (from my first experience on the Tube)

Subsequent impression of London : beautiful, gigantic, messy, lively, mix ‘n match

Final impression of London : i will be back 😀

Having the small-town syndrome and the fact that i have been living in a village for sometime, London seems to be enormous and not to mention messy as well.

The Underground Tube system is very convenience, and with only 7pound, you will be able to get a day ticket for zone 1 and 2, which is more than enough if you have only a few days in London and have no plan to go out of the city.

London could be expensive, or so i heard, read and understand. In terms of accomodation, perhaps i would say they are really expensive! I booked myself a bed in a 2-star hotel… which i surveyed day and night with the help of Google Streetview. The hotel is located in an eccentric neighbourhood of backpackers, fast food outlets, tonnes of souvenir shops, pubs, and various ethnic restaurant. The hotel itself is located on a wide leafy boulevard with rows of beautiful, magnificent, and unmistakeably very british Georgian houses.

But the room itself leaves much to be desired. The room is in the basement next to the kitchen, enough said!

Nevertheless, luckily most sights and landmarks in London are free. The grand Westminster, the unique Tower Bridge, the majestic Buckhingham Palace, the weird Tate Modern, the awesome British Museum, the popular Trafalgar Square, the glamour Leicester Square, the expensive Harrods, the green Hyde Park, the colourful Piccadilly Circus, the gorgeous St Paul’s Cathedral, the noisy Chinatown, i am out of vocabularies and well… i am sure you get what i meant.

So basically, you dont need to spend much to experience the sight.

I had my first nasi lemak after more than 7 months in an authentic Malaysian Restaurant near the National Art Gallery… i gulp it down with a glass or original teh tarik… NICE…. and no… dont ask me the price please.

I also had my first wanton noodles for lunch, and roast duck, kangkung, real tofu, pork for dinner on one of the day.
hehehehe… is more like a trip to indulge in asian food… ya..sounds funny…

I had also the chance to meet a few of my friends, primary school friend, secondary school friend, and also another friend of mine…we went to the same tuition. It was lots of fun, to meet again after so long…

So from London, of course i had my first supposedly original Fish ‘n Chips. Those meals weren’t really expensive…. or at least so i thought.

Shopping in London itself, is worth a whole new post…
but anyway, to sums it up, i bought a crumpler camera bag, one bottle of DKNY perfume, 2 Puma shirts(£11), 1 Everlast shirt(£6), 2 Londonsdale(£16), 3 Hard Rock Cafe London t-shirts and i help my friend to buy an Anya Hindmarch tote bag.

Well…. conclusion, i enjoyed the trip, i enjoyed the company of my friend…. i love the new experiences….
and i am glad… i had one of my dream fulfilled…

though…. one of a dream of mine shattered this week… 🙁

I am always been blessed with many friends….
well, at least to me, i felt that i am..
well…unless you guys never treat me as friend… hehehehhehehehe

Time flies, and i have been here for more than 6 months…
During this time, i am really thankful to have you, you, you and you, to be with me… through FB, blog, emails, msn, skype, and by the rest of other means.

Some of you even make it here.. right here in Switzerland… and i am really happy for that. It makes me feel that i am right at home… or at least never felt much alone.

Here, in Switzerland, first i have Nicholas, my primary and secondary school friend, whom i hv not been meeting for years… dropping by to say hi, and we went together for holidays. It was an awesome trip, i enjoyed it, and i hope Nick too.

Then i have my best friend here… BoSe…. well the last time he mentioned, he said i m just his acquaintance. Nevertheless, i felt great and i felt just at home to be able to see him here…..

Of course, here as well,i get to meet an “old friend” of mine, Patrick. Well, i knew him years ago from blogging… and have been keeping in touch all this while. I too enjoyed being the local tourguide, trying to show him around my favourite weekend city here, Zurich.

Next, i have met my 2 ex-colleagues here from my previous company. We too went to a few places within Central Switzerland, went to concert, went up the mountains, and we had lots of fun. Well, i think they did enjoyed it for they were here again for 2nd time…. it was just awesome.

And not forgetting last week, where someone i knew first by name, a “colleague” of mine from Singapore were here and we did some windows shopping and had dinners together. Now, i knew him more than his name… i think i make myself a new friend… again….or so i thought.

This coming weekend, i will another visitor… this round, someone i knew for some years… and we are good friend.
She will be here for a few weeks… and i am really looking forward to her visit…. and for her company.

Now, can anyone explain to me why i couldnt keep track of my spending?? heheehehhehe

My first birthday

Wednesday, July 1st, 2009

Well not exactly my First birthday, but it is the first birthday i have in Switzerland.

One major differences having your birthday here is that you would have to announce it to the world, and then it is customary for the birthday boy/girl to treat all his/her friends….

It is an office tradition (or compulsory) as well for the birthday boy/girl to bring something to the office to share with all the beloved colleagues…

So to prepare for my big day today, i went to a bakery in advance… to book my cakes, to have it customized, to request for labels on all the boxes, and finally today, to pick it up at 7am before taking the train to office.

In total, i bought 18 pieces(9 different flavours) of lovely awesome delicious cake, torte, from Heini Confectionery, a local household name here in the city of Luzern.

I had a blast last weekend with my ex-colleagues who were here from Munich for a weekend. We had a great time, and therefor, for tonight itself, i am having only instant noodles as dinner.

This year, i received really a lot of warm, sweet, sincere, wishes and messages from all my brothers, sisters, friends. I really appreciate all the messages for it definitely make today a wonderful memorable day.

A taste of Home

Saturday, June 13th, 2009

For a moment, it smells like Malaysia, sounds like Malaysia… and almost… almost taste like Malaysia…

i had a wonderful dinner at a malaysian restaurant in zurich… i heard that there aren’t many malaysian restaurant in zurich, and this one i had…suppose to be quite popular with the singaporean and malaysian crowd.. the name of the restaurant is Teoh Restaurant, and supposely they had been operating like 20 years??

it is also possible to have some pre-book dishes…
like if you manage to get like 10 ppl, then you could inform the owner what you would like to have, for example, Assam Laksa, or Prawn Noodles, or real satay with peanut sauce…

  1. Food – CHF130 (RM416)
    • wanton soup (8 special only-for-malaysian’s prawn wantons),
    • 1 portion gado-gado (indian rojak),
    • 1 nyonya curry chicken,
    • 1 char koay teow,
    • 1 duck noodles soup,
    • 1 curry mee,
    • 2 jasmine tea,
    • 2 bier
  2. Train ticket from Luzern to Zurich – CHF28.20 (RM90.24)
  3. Taste of home – PRICELESS

Well…… not something that i should do frequently as i hav with me canned curry chicken, chicken herbs soup, luncheon meat, dark soy sauce, sesame oil, etc with me…. but it is nice, once in a while, to have something to remind me of how food in malaysia taste like now… hehehehhehehe

Today was a day full of activities, and also full of money using excuses… watched Terminator at noon, had (lousy) Hong Kong food for lunch, went shopping and bought myself a new shirt and a new jacket.

Teoh Restaurant

Bäckerstrasse 37
8004 Zürich

Do make bookings if you are there during peak hours, as the restaurant is small, there are places for like 30 ppl. )

Is grass always greener on the other side?

Friday, March 6th, 2009

or the moon bigger and rounder on the other side?

well… what i can say is that… NO… at least for now…
i hv not seen Mr Sunny for some time… not to mention Miss Moon….
Grass too never seems to be appear greener… as it has been snowing this morning and this evening..
so all covered up.

I used to think that snowing was fun… and now i started to hate it.
It makes the walkway squishy, yucky, slimmey, and it is not pleasant at all.
Not to mention as well that it makes my shoes soggy wet and coming from a tropical paradise, i really do not know how to handle this. Should i wear plastic cover over my leather shoes? or i just let it be…
it is getting worse by day.. and it starts to stink!

One of my mission here is trying to be more healthy…slimming down in between..
I try to eat McD set meal for dinner one night while i was at hotel… and i kind of like having indigestion. I felt the burger and the fries up my throat all night long!………….. so i try to make it a point to have salad for dinner everyday… and make my lunch as the main meal of the day. It is the same today… i had a small portion of salad… with french dressing for dinner, then, i took a glass of milk… then 2 slices of sponge cake… and finally 1/2 a pack of potato chips. Guessed…today i failed ya???

I went for minor groceries shopping today, now that i have a fully furnished apartment and kitchen, i can start cooking…. on weekends. Weekdays, i just simply feel too lazy! i bought a small bag of TAUGEH/beansprout, a few hundred grams of fresh mushroom (meant for weekend dinner), a box of cereal and a carton of milk (meant for breakfast. I planned to have fried noodles this sunday… with taugeh and mushroom, eggs and perhaps chicken fillet!! i am salivating just by typing it out here… hehe
something like this :

One of the way to make the Swiss to recycle, you are only allowed to use the SPECIAL garbage bag by the government… and it cost 3chf for one… RM10 just for a plastic bag. With this the government hope that the people will throw lesser rubbish..and to recycle more. Here they have recycling centre everywhere… and you are suppose to segregate your rubbish into glass, metal, paper, PET (plastic bottles) , cardboard, bio-decomposable and to bring it to the recycling centre. I will try to take some picture and have better explanation on my coming posts. It took me a good few minutes just to tell the cashier of a grocery store that i need the ‘Local Gov Bag’ for trash.

KFC sucks

Friday, December 12th, 2008

I used to like KFC…
that is abt the only fried chicken i like…

KFC has come a long way since it was first introduced aeons ago…

I just had KFC for my dinner today…. and i found it disappointing

It isnt as finger liking good as before…
something is missing… lacking of the kick which makes KFC, the KFC

What do you think? Any KFC fans out there?
Did you find anything different with the taste, the flavour, and the texture?

I am not sure if this is some global thingy.. which means the global KFC changed their recipe..

or it has something to do with our SMART LOCAL FRANCHISEE??
